Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with community service. He was the youngest son of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. They raised him on the farm they owned in Eufala. The second football was that his father was the only of three brothers to play with Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in across the country. In his time as Oklahoma's starting quarterback and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and won two national titles. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975 and selected as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned his diploma in education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. After college, he moved into Tampa and played for nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his career. His first job was as an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that, in 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 young stars across the country. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs when he was a student athlete. He was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993 he joined the University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave the Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
